Has anyone tried Canidae dog food for food allergies?

June 17th, 2010 by admin

If anyone has tried this dog food, please let me know what symptoms your dog was experiencing before you switched to this food and how it helped your dog. Also, if you could tell me what kind of Canidae dog food your dog is on. Thanks.
Has you dog been diagnosed with food allergies?

The problem with an "allergy food" is that it only works if the specific food your dog is allergic to is not in the dog food. Our younger girl has BAD food allergies- the "allergy" food didn’t work- we tried everything! We finally tried an exclusion diet to find out exactly what she was used to- and she was allergic to all of the starches- potatoes, rice, etc.

The treatment for dog food allergies is the same as humans- you must eliminate the specific food they are allergic to.

Good luck!

Common symptoms of tomato allergies? extreme itching, redness on arms?

June 5th, 2010 by admin

I have been trying to narrow down my a food allergy without going to a doctor because its not that severe. Recently it seems to be getting a little worse. The top of my forearms start to itch like crazy and sometimes the back of my hands. It gets so bad now that I literally bleed from scratching it so much. Usually its only one arm when it happens, but it can be one or the other. Is this a common allergy symptom with tomatoes. I seem to also get a dry mouth now and slight change in the feel of swallowing. I am going to see a doctor soon, but I’d like feedback now as well. Thanks in advance.

Identifying Food Allergies – 8 Foods That Commonly Cause Allergies

June 2nd, 2010 by admin

Common food allergies are one of the most popular types of allergies that exist. When you initially eat a food, you may not know you are allergic to it. Minor symptoms of common food allergies usually result in swelling and tingling of the lips and tongue and swelling in the mouth. More severe allergies include trouble breathing, swelling of the throat, vomiting and fainting. These conditions require immediate attention because it could be become fatal. The more common term for these conditions is anaphylaxis shock. People with common food allergies could also suffer from upset stomachs, skin rashes or itchy, swollen eyes. There is no exact symptom that a person with a common food allergy will get so it is important to note all the different reactions you might have after eating a certain meal.

The good thing about common food allergies is that if you stay away from these foods, the allergies will not be a problem. There have been eight foods that are associated with common food allergies.

1. Milk
2. Eggs
3. Peanuts
4. Tree nuts
5. Fish
6. Shellfish
7. Soy
8. Wheat

About 90 percent of common food allergies can be related to these eight foods. People with these food allergies have gotten help from the Federal Food and Drug Administration identifying harmful foods. Companies and restaurants are required by law to state if any of these foods are in an item. Also, they have to state if one of these foods is used in the cooking process. The FDA is looking out for everyone to make common food allergies uncommon.

Reading labels and all warnings on food is important. If you have a peanut allergy, but do not realize that a certain snack could have peanuts in the process, you could end up suffering for a severe reaction. Labels will state if peanuts are or could be used while making the food.

If you think you have a food allergy or notice that after you eat a certain item that you do not feel well, you may want to check with your doctor to see if you have any allergies. There are ways your doctor or an allergist can check for common food allergies. Such tests include a blood test, skin test and a careful description of what you have eaten. It is smart to keep a journal of foods and write down whenever you have a reaction. This way doctors can use this when deciphering the information and will be able to tell if you have a common food allergy.

If you do have common food allergies, let your doctor know on every visit about this allergy. There are some medications that you might not be able to take because you might have a reaction to the medicine.

Mothers who have breastfed a baby that has food allergies?

June 1st, 2010 by admin

I need to hear from mothers who nursed their babies and discovered something they were eating was bothering the baby (via the breastmilk).

1. What was the food (or foods)?
2. What type of reaction or symptoms did the offending food cause?
3. Did they outgrow it?

I strongly suspect my son is sensitive to dairy….and possibly something else. Still trying to decipher it.

My daughter is dairy intolerant.
When she was about 3 months old, she wasn’t gaining much weight so I supplemented with some formula. Over 3 days she only got about 150mls in total of the formula. On the 3rd night, she woke up screaming and throwing up. That passed but she didn’t keep anything down for a good 12 hours, not even some water. I took her to the hospital and they said it was the fomula which we suspected. They suggested we try lactose free formula. A few days later she had 20mls of that and the next day she was very irritable. Not sure if it was the formula or a coincidence.

I got back to exclusively breastfeeding but didn’t realise that I needed to stop having dairy. During this time, my daughter was extremely difficult. I couldn’t put her down for 5 mins without her screaming and she wasn’t happy with anyone but me. Her father was not good enough and neither was her grandma (who lives next door and often looks after her for an hour here and there, so it’s not like it was a stranger)
Anyways, I saw a lactation consultant and she told me I should be off dairy. I went off it and the change was almost instant. The next day, she was so much happier and I could put her on the floor and leave her with my mum again.

Everynow and then I have a small amount of dairy… a biscuit or something like that and it doesn’t seem to bother her but on Wednesday I had a peice of cake, some butter on a roll and something else and the next day she was very cranky. Not sure if it was the dairy or something else.

Our health nurse suggested we try some whole cow’s milk on her cereal and it gave her bad diarhea. We also tried some natural yoghurt which didn’t seem to affect her. They say that natural yoghurt is often ok because of the live cultures…they apparently feed on the lactose.

Sorry that is so long, I hope it helps. Just try cutting out different things for a few days and see if you notice a difference.

Good luck

Dr. Doris Rapp – Children’s Allergies to Food & Environment

May 28th, 2010 by admin

Dr. Rapp is dedicated to sharing important information about harmful environmental factors that can affect how children and adults feel, think and act in our high-tech, high-stress, high-profit world. The “progress at any cost” mentality is rapidly overwhelming our bodies as we attempt to cope with our increasingly polluted environment.

Dr. Rapp is committed to educate both the public and health professionals about the ominous physical and behavioral changes frequently evident in children and adults. The more we know, the more we can protect ourselves and our loved ones by taking some often easy and inexpensive precautions. We simply have to be more informed so we can make better choices.

In her breakthrough book, “Is This Your Child’s World?” – Dr. Rapp identifies the major symptoms of potentially unrecognized allergies in children and adults, suggesting possible sensitivities to dust, mold, pollen, foods or chemicals. Allergies are much more than high fever, asthma and itchy skin. It is possible to identify allergies by simply looking at someone. At times it is surprisingly easy to find and eliminate the cause.

The typical clues of allergies and environmental illness can include any combination of the following: Rubbing Nose Upwards, Eye Wrinkles, Dark Eye Circles, Sudden Aggression, Scarlet Earlobes, A Spacey Look, Extreme Activity Changes, Wiggly Legs, Red Cheeks, A Mottled Tongue
