What is a good allergy medication for pet and seasonal allergies?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pet allergy

Hello i recently purchased a chinchilla and i seem to notice a few slight allergies to him and his hay and dust. I am also having seasonal allergies at the same time so i am unsure whats actually causing it him or the world. Is there one medication that works for all of the above? I am not allergic to dogs i have two of those no problem but ever since moving from california to new hampshire i am just drowning in allergies.

Try Zyrtec or Claritin. They can both be purchased over the counter at your local grocery store.

What are the signs of you having a pet allergy?

itchy, watery eyes, nasal congestion, sneezing…if it starts when you are around an animal… and then is relieved when you are away from it…there is a good chance that you have an allergy. Allergy symptoms can vary in people. Some people can have very serious reactions like difficulty breathing. Going to an allergist will help you find out if you are truely allergic.

Can an allergy cause a tight and burning sensation in the throat?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

Im not sure if its an allergy or what, but every few hours a day, I get that sensation and sometimes (Not always) start coughing a lot, and then it completely disappears.
.
I have no idea what is causing it either, it just comes on randomly.

Not only is that an allergy symptom, but it’s one of the more dangerous ones. A tight, burning throat is the first sign of anphylaxis. You can be fine the first, second, or hundredth time it happens, and swell up and stop breathing the very next time. Not a symptom to take lightly!

If you can’t tie your reaction to a specific time, food, drug, place or other trigger, I’d highly recommend an allergist. Their tests aren’t perfect, but in your case could discover a life threatening trigger.

Good luck!

how can i cure my allergy with my pet cat?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pet allergy

I have Persian for past 6 years. In the 1st 3 years i was ok with it…but recently i have become allergic. My eyes swell up and become and itchy and i get bad sneezing and sinus attacks. Please tell me why this happened suddenly. I can i co exist with my cat. I love my pet very much.

I have allergies to cats and own two Persians myself. The best thing you can do is get rid of the cat, but who are we kidding? I would never do that and doubt you would too. So realistically you need to get rid of the source of the allergy. More likely than not you are allergic to the protein in their saliva. Cats are constantly grooming themselves. The protein in their saliva gets attached to their skin/fur and then once dry becomes airborne. First thing to do is bathe your cats regularly. I have done it with both of my cats since they were kittens. If you have never bathed them it could be challenging. I highly recommend holding their two front paws together when dipping them into the water receptacle (sink or bathtub) to avoid getting scratched. Don’t let them move towards you because they will try to jump onto you to escape and will use their claws to hold on (through your skin!) Secondly you need to get rid of the environmental problems. Vacuum often (a couple times a week). Change your bedding frequently. I cover things that my cats sit on regularly with something (towel or sheet) that I can wash in the laundry. This helps to capture deposits of their hair and remove it from the environment. Then there are prescriptions you can take yourself. Allegra or other antihistamines, eyedrops (I have never used them but just heard about them myself), and also flushing out your sinuses with saline solution. Good luck to you!

What is the best allergy medication to get?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

My boyfriend seems to have allergies all year long but he hates Benedryll because it makes him feel like he’s high and sleep. Lately he’s been having them really bad because of the warm weather with all the pollen in the air plus our cats are shedding and he’s allergic to cats. We didn’t know he was allergic until we got them and we’re not getting rid of them now. He’s is eventually going to go to a doctor about it but for now what is the best allergy medication? Claritin? Zyrtec? What?

Claritin is weaker than Zyrtec but less likely to cause drowsiness.
Zyrtec is about as strong as Benadryl and less likely to cause drowsiness than Benadryl, but it does make some ppl drowsy.

If Claritin is too weak and Zyrtec makes you drowsy, you will have to reduce your exposure or suffer until you get a prescription. Nasalcrom is OTC and useful for some ppl, but only if its used 4 times daily so this medication does not make sense for ppl who have allergies for many months of the year. It prevents but does not reverse allergy so you have to use it for a few weeks before you feel the difference, unless you start it before the exposure.

In the meantime consider using a Neil-Med sinus rinse, a HEPA vacuum, washing the cats (or cleaning them with Aller-pet) frequently, keeping the cats out of the bedroom. If you keep the windows closed to keep out the pollen (usually a good idea in spring) you will also trap in the cat allergens, so only do that if you also use a good air filter in your bedroom (like the 3m filtrete or honeywell—never use an air filter that makes ozone, please).

sounds like your bf is a perfect candidate for allergy shots. they are scientific and really work.

Natural Allergy treatment what has worked for you?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

It seems I am getting more and more seasonal allergies every year. My symptoms are getting to the point where no matter where I am, indoors or outdoors, I am getting dry coughing hacking attacks. Avoidance of my allergies is not an option anymore. My house is cleaned regularly, and we have air conditioning, so I have done what I can environmentally. I am trying also the netti pot which is not doing anything.

I have heard of allergy shots or taking raw honey, and I would like to know of any natural remedies or permanent solutions that anyone has tried.

I’m the same way. I also get really bad allergy eye, like i have now. My whole left eye is swollen to the point where I can’t see!

Natural Allergy treatment is hard. I’d consider going somewhere and get over the counter medicine. You can get most for 3-6 Dollars. Don’t get brand names. Get ones that are similar to brand names. (It should say on the box what allergy treatment it’s similar too.)

I have an allergy to Barley Grass and Barley Wheat, can anyone help me find any information?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergy information

Think I said it all, I have an allergy to Barley grass and Barely wheat, if I eat/drink either I get an very itchy mouth, throat then very sick for a time – varying on how much I consume. A bottle of one of those "super foods" drinks will make me sick for anything up to two weeks – vomiting and such. If anyone can provide any information I’d be very grateful – links to sites etc.. or any advice for how to deal with my allergy if I accidentally consume some.

i would suggest that you visit a nutritionist. he or she will look to the root of your problem instead of trying to mask the symptoms like conventional medicine tends to do.

you will get personalized tips on things you should eat, and how you can manage your allergy.

Food Allergy Fun on Halloween – PSA video from Egg-Free Epicurean

Amy Jones Anichini, Founder and CEO says: Keeping food allergic children safe on Halloween isn’t easy — but we have a way you can do it while maximizing the fun factor of trick-or-treating! Our strategy begins with allowing them to trick-or-treat and show off that costume, but make sure they don’t eat ANYTHING from the bag until a parent goes through it at home. Believe it not, that’s when the fun really begins!

Before Halloween, stock up on safe, desirable treats for them (remember to read every label every time), and don’t limit yourself only to food items.  Have plenty of age- and gender-appropriate toys on hand, too (such a mini Play-Dough tubs, Silly Bands, temporary tatoos, and trendy trading cards).  When your children have finished trick-or-treating, let them trade the candy they’re allergic to for the safe candy and prizes. Make a celebration of it – instead of feeling deprived, your food allergic child can feel extra special!

Can I be allergic to a cat in a seperate apartment?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

My husband and I live on a second floor apartment. The neighbor on the first floor have a cat. He is having an allergy attack everytime he comes home. Complains his eyes itch and stuffy nose. He is known to be allergic to cats. Could he be allergic to the neighbors cat? Is there anything to do to minimize the allergic reaction?

Laurie: It is possible that someone that lived in the apartment before you moved in had a cat and he is reacting to that. It is also possible that he is reacting to molds, dust mites, or other common allergens that are in your apartment. While cat allergen has been found in homes where there are no cats (because people that own cats carry this stuff on them) I don’t know that I would suspect the cat upstairs. You don’t share ventilation so there is not a way for him to be exposed. However, that doesn’t help the problem he is having. What I would do is wash all the bedding in special anti-allergen detergent, just in case it is dust mites and spray all the rugs, furniture, draperies, carpets, and other fiber surfaces with an anti-allergen spray like the one Alkaline Labs makes. The Alkaline spray works on all allegens, so even if it isn’t the cat it will stop it. You might also get a mold test kit from the hardware store and test the place for mold. If you have an AC, make sure it is clean!
