Im Allergic

Because I always thought it was the hair and not the animal itself that causes allergic reactions, so if the cat doesn’t have hair how can she be allergic to it?
I know it’s just a TV show… I just wondered how she can be allergic to it, that is all!

If so, how long does it usually take?

I am recovering from more than 20 years of chronic caffeine poisoning. Stopped the habit 20 months ago and I’m still getting symptoms but in the long run, I’m a lot better. Between the recurring symptoms, I feel about 30 years younger than a couple of years back. Seems like it’s going yo take a couple of yers before the body is clean from all the crap accumulated in the body during use.

I noticed, that caffeinism has left me with a metabolic disorder. I have purine intolerance. This means, that I have to live on gout diet, or I get gout pains in whole body.

I have mild allergies, but love cats and have heard there are breeds that are better for allergy sufferers than others. Which are the best breeds for this?

Maine Coons? NFW, they have lots and lots of long hair. Look for rexes, as they have no undercoat and tight curly fur.

Some people (like me) are more allergic to exotic breeds like Abyssinians and Ragdolls.

And allergies do not automatically get worse over time. Your body can get accustomed to your own cat’s allergens, and thus your allergies get better.

When I was a child my Mother had an all white cat. I had no allergic reactions. As a teen I had a close friend who had dark fur colored cats. I was very allergic to her cats. Not sure what type of cats they were. They had black, white and gray in their fur. But they were mainly dark. Could I only be allergic to those type of cats?

I have had lots of cats in my life and there are definately some who have more irritating dander than others. When I had three at once a few years ago it went like this. The snowshoe Siamese was moderately irritating, I could pet her but needed to wash my hands and wipe off my face after wards or I would feel itchy and allergyish. The Tuxedo had short smooth fur, always smelled very fresh and I could put my face into her fur and breathe it in without any effects at all. The orange tabby had dense fluffy fur like a "shorthair" and was highly irritating. Even brief petting made you feel sneezy and itchy around the eyes. They were all indoor/outdoor and shared sleeping space etc. so it was just their individual dander.

My friend is allergic to strawberries, and Twizzlers packaging says "Artificially Flavored," with no indication in the ingredients list that there is any actual strawberry in strawberry Twizzlers. He had a mild reaction after eating quite a few Twizzlers. Has anyone else had this kind of reaction? Is there actually strawberry in Twizzlers?

Nope i havent but there is something that is strawberry like in twizzlers of course.

I Read yes and no, waiver no waiver. I have an anaphlaxis peanut allergy meaning if i eat or i am sum what near a peanut i get hives and could go into anaphlaxis shock. All my life i have wanted to join the military and i was wondering if there is a Waiver for an anaphlaxis peanut allergy.

i have had a few attacks while on the treadmill or just after finishing.
I have had to use an epipen and go to the ER several times. I was told to not eat or drink 2 hrs. before running. I really enjoy running but sometimes i get a little freaked out about this weird condition. I am a 50yr old female and this started happening at age 40. i have been a runner since the early 80′s.

hmmm this is a tough one, i was going to say don’t eat or drink anything and do your running early in the morning on an empty stomach, but as you’ve said this is not working. have you tried antihistamines like Hydroxyzine or mast cell stabalizers such as cromolyn ? if these aren’t working, your just going to have to learn your triggers and try to avoid them. i remember reading somewhere that this does go away or at least not happen as much over time. but its been 10years for you.

at the very least i would encourage you to find an exercise partner to workout with that is aware of your condition and can administer an epinephrine, also i would avoid aspirin. have you noticed if this happens around menstration only?? that could be a trigger. but maybe try those meds i mentioned above, thats all i got, hope it helps a little

anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction to a foreign protein or other substance. Meaning this one develops on its own.

Atopy is an allergic reaction with a hereditary predisposition. Meaning the animal is born with this problem.

If you are referring to prednisone then the answer is yes, it does make you gain weight, mostly water weight, which will go away a few weeks after you stop taking the med. It can also make you hungry and if this is the case, overeating can lead to weight gain which is more difficult to lose than water retention. Prednisone is a powerful drug which stays in the body up to three weeks after use. Don’t worry, it’s only temporary. Sorry you went into shock in the first place. Good luck!
