What is a good pet for a child with allergies/asthma?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pet allergy

My daughter LOVES animals, but she has bad pet allergies. What is a good, cute, lovable pet for her? No cats, ferrets, and were not allowed dogs where we live otherwise I know there is non-allergenic dogs.

If she’s looking for a good pet that will lover her like a dog without the fur, birds are the way to go. Small parrots, like conures and "pocket parrots" are great for small spaces and very colorful. Larger parrots are harder to care for, but some say they are smarter and have larger vocabularies of you’re looking for talking birds.

If your interested, read up on them. Trust me, you won’t be dissapointed.

How to cure allergic reaction on the face?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

I have some sort of hivey allergic reaction on my face. When it started, I also had haves on my hands, but those went away two days ago. The rash on my face persists.
Any idea on how I can get rid of it?
We don’t know what caused the allergy, but at the moment, all we want to to get rid of it.
We think it may have just been a phantom reaction.
The rash is all over my face, save for my ears, eyelids, and lips.
Any suggestions?

take an anti histamine such as piriton or beneydrl if this does not work see a dr ,could be anything that caused it food, products or stress if your lips start to swell/tongue go to emergency room

Do you know anything to solve my hay fever?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: hay fever

I began to suffer from hay fever at age 7 and ever since I am still suffering every year! I suffer from runny nose, blood shot in my eyes, and an itchy nose.My life is a misery ever since I got hay fever.Right this second I have a runny nose an blood shot.I have to shut all the windows in the house and stay inside until night time.Do you know any thing that will keep my hay fever away ?

Laura, it seems that you’re fighting from your allergy for a long time. Closing doors and windows are one way to keep away from the pollens – that’s good unless you will use air purifier. Shutting down your windows are not enough because the pollens can still go into the room. So make sure you will use it because it will remove pollens present in the air or just your air conditioner because it will set as air filter.

Am i allergic to the sun if my face swells up when i get a sunburn?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

Well my papa is allergic to the sun. Everytime I go outside in the sun for a long time I end up getting a sunborn and i’ll go to sleep that night and wake up with a swollen face. What does this mean? Am I allergic to the sun? I know it sounds silly to be allergic to the sun but my grandfather is as well.

You may be allergic to the sun, but many people have a reaction if they spend a LONG time in the sun. If this happens when you spend only a few minutes in the sun, then it might be an allergy for sure. However, if you stay in the sun long enough to get a sunburn, that might be a different matter. Your reaction might be to TOO MUCH sun, rather than to the sun itself.

I have hay fever and asthma, whats the best type of small dog for me?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: hay fever

My family are thinking adout getting a dog but my mum and me have hay fever and I have asthma. My mum wants a small dog, that is easy to walk (short walks and not too many). My mum also works all day and my dad comes home at 13:00, I am also at school. Could you recomend a dog for me?

My son has asthma/hay fever too. His face and eyes get very puffy, itchy and swollen when he is too close to short haired dogs. Despite that, he really wanted a dog so I took him to a pet shop and warned him before hand that if he had a bad reaction, he could not have one because his health is more important. We liked the American Eskimo therefore, we spent some time with one. My son played with the dog and held it for a while. Surprisingly, he did not have a bad reaction at all. We researched it and purchased one from a breeder in Indiana. Our dog is 2 1/2 now (14 1/2 in dog years lol) and thank God, my son does just fine with him. He has not had an episode. Apparently, dogs with shorter coats have more dander which is what causes the Asthma. But, everyone is different so you may want to hang out with people who have dogs to see how you react to the dander. My dog is a standard size but they come in miniature size and tea cup. Good Luck.

Is the success rate high for getting rid of cat allergies with allergy shots?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

I am considering getting allergy shots for my bad cat allergies because I absolutely love cats but can’t be around them because I get severe allergy problems. Irritated skin, irritated eyes and severe sneezing.
I have heard allergy shots over a 3 year period may eliminate the allergy altogether but it is costly and not 100% guaranteed.
Is the success rate high for getting rid of cat allergies with allergy shots?
Do you think it is worth it?
Thanks for answering.

thats a doctor question….

When is the best time of day to take antihistamines for hay fever?

Id say the morning, please dont be scare mongered into not taking a perfectly safe widely used medicine to treat hayfever and allergies!!
As long as you stick to the recommended dose you should be fine.
Bear in mind that herbal and natural remedies can cause problems too so please dont let the opinion of cooker-upper1′s scare you into not taking something that could really make a difference to your hayfever!!

Do air purifiers really work for pet allergies?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pet allergy

I’m allergic to cats and just got a kitten. I’ve been taking Claritin, which seems to help. I was wondering though, do air purifiers really work for pet allergies or are they a waste of money?

If you’re allergic to your cat, it’s probably the dander that’s causing it. Just like a human’s dandruff, pet dander are flakes of dead skin. So, it all depends on the air purifier. There are some air purifiers that work better than others.

I recommend looking at the line of air purifiers that Oreck produces. They’ve always had good quality in my opinion, and any extra money you pay for them now is saved in maintenance and filters later. And I think the comfort is well worth it. Also, Oreck is one of those companies that puts a small amount of ionized air out, which makes your air smell nice. Yes, there are studies that say too many ions are bad for your health, but that only means that you shouldn’t sleep right next to them.

I looked for "pet allergies" in WebMD, and came up with this: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/113/110883.htm

Can Hay Fever be caused through having lots of flowers in the house?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: hay fever

I recently had a birthday, and received 5 bouquet’s of a mixture of flowers, since the flowers opened I have done a lot of sneezing and have a runny nose, could this be hay fever?

Yes it could be. However it might have just coincided with the release of pollen etc from grasses or other flowers such as apple blossom.

How to relieve a hay fever cough?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: hay fever

My partner suffers from bad hay fever, but for the past couple of weeks his chest has been the worst its ever been with hayfever. He used to only get it at night, but now its 99% of the time.

What can we do to alleviate it? His chest is very tight and he is finding it hard to take deep breaths.

Thankyou.
Ps he has tried anti histimines to no effect

You are quite right, antihistamines have little effect on the receptors in the lungs. Beta2 agonists such as inhaled salbutamol will temporarily reduce bronchospasm, which is sounds like you are describing. However they will have little effect on cough. This will require inhaled steroids. These need to be started sooner rather than later as they require 10-14 days to produce stabilisation. Have a chat with your GP.
