Do u have allergy of dog dander ? How do u deal with it when u have a pet dog?
How severe is your allergy ?
I recently noticed (after 2 years from owing the dog) that i get a runny nose when i pick up one of my dog (lhasa). So i was wondering whether i am getting a pet allergy.
How should i deal with this ?? Giving them away is not a option for me.
I do give them weekly bath and brush 2-3 times a week. anything else i should do.
i was thinking of making them wear clothes during the day when they roam around in the house, will that help ???
plss suggest something.
can one get Anaphylactic Shock from dogs dander?
you are not allergic to dander. Dogs have a protein in their saliva and urine (Can d1) that causes the allergic reaction. Each time the dog licks or urinates this protein is spread and adheres to the skin and fur of the animal. The protein dries up and flakes off. The flakes become airborne and are either inhaled or stick to something until they are disturbed and become airborne again. When you inhale that protein, your body mis-identifies the protein as a germ. Your body has created a specific human immunoglobulin (IgE) for that protein so that upon exposure the IgE gets the mast cells all excited and they begin to produce histamine and leukotrienes which are what actually cause your symptoms. To stop the symptoms you have to stop the protein. Since proteins can be denatured (or neutralized) by certain acids and alkalis that is the most effective approach. You start to weekly groom the dog with Allerpet/D which is a denaturing agent. When you wash the dog, use PetPlus shampoo which will also remove the Can d1 protein. In the areas of the house that the dog hangs out, you spray monthly with Alkaline’s ADMS spray to denature the proteins that are sticking to your furniture, rugs, carpets, etc.
It just takes a little time, a little energy, and a little money but you can live with both the animal protein and your allergy to it. Over time, you might want to consider immunotherapy in hopes of reducing your reactiveness. Good Luck
