can employers ask employees to voluntarily give information on allergies or does this violate HIPPA laws?

For 1st Aid and injuries – would it be possible to have employees voluntarily fill out a simple questionnaire that lists allergies to certain medicines, latex, insect stings?
Will this violate any HIPPA laws?

Of course you can ask that. If it is VOLUNTARY then you can ask pretty much anything.

what site could I go to look for information about skin allergy to Isopropyl Alcohol?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergy information

I had a catheter put in and they used chloralPrep to clean/Prep area and ended up with a rash then last night I was applying over the counter Isopropyl Alcohol to an area on my husband and ended up getting some on my arm and now I have another rash I have been looking on the web for skin alleries to it but have found nothing
Although the Dr. says I am allergis to the Chlorhexidine I don’t think thats it being that I have the same rash from just the alcohol

I am allergic to the chlorohexadine in the cholorprep, and while not allergic to alcohol, it does irritate my skin. I had a Port a Cath and a Hickman at different points. I am also allergic to the betadine. So, I got cleaned with just reg peroxide. That is the bottom of the list when it comes to nurse/doc prefernce, but it works when your allergic to everything else.

How common is it to have an allergic reaction to eye makeup?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergic

I’m going to buy higher end makeup but i am afraid of having an allergic reaction. I have never had an allergic reaction and i have used maybelline, rimmel, covergirl, and other cheaper brands.

it is more common than you think. after years in cosmetics, i have met many women who have allergic reactions to shadows and other eye makeup. it is true that the cheaper brands tend to be more irritating, but it is a few particular ingredients that cause problems. bismuth and mica are two ingredients that cause reactions, and they are often found in mineral makeup. also, shadows and liners with a red base (pinks, browns, purples) can be very harsh. something about the red dyes causes extreme irritation. to avoid this problem, stick to colors with a blue base (grey, green, blue) or make sure you can return items that irritate you.

Does anyone here have an allergy to Stevia?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: allergy information

There is very little information on the internet of people with allergies to it. If you are allergic or know somebody, tell me about it. I think I may have an allergy to it..

Well, Stevia is a plant leaf which comes from the plant, so it’s possible that you could be allergic to the plant…Never heard of anyone complaining about allergies with it though. Are you sure it isn’t something else that you’re eating?

what allergy medicine for pet rat?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pet allergy

One of my rats seems to have developed allergies to the laundry soap and gets distressed if his blankets and hammocks are more than a day dirty. I have changed to sensitive laundry soap and he is currently in a different room than his cage mates on clean towels. I am familiar with respiratory illnesses in rats, but this is only in his nose and he stops sneezing and wheezing if I have just cleaned the cage and now that he is in a isolated room.
Any vet out there no of what I can get for him to help his allergies? I don’t want to use a steroid, because it will lower his immune system. Usually , we use childrens antihistimine (without aspirin) but it is not working.
I am wondering if there is a allergy medicine (similiar to human med Claritin) that would allow him to go back into the cage with his buddies for the weekend until I can get him to my vet .
Yup, it’s the Tide. Poor thing. I liked the post about antibiotics and steaming, all of which I know about, but it was very knowledgable.
Tomorrow I am going to wash every rat hammock and clothes in unscented detergent and he shall be moving in with two new baby boys in a ‘clean’ room.

i’m no way a vet, but i’ve had a lot of experience with rats. i have a rat at the moment who is quite rattly and i’ve battled a lot with it to get him to a mostly healthy state.

definately don’t leave him apart form his friends, he will end up being even more distressed.
make sure there is no dusty bedding (cardboard squares or pieces of fleece material will help)
don’t wash any of the rats blankets or hammocks in detergent, just a warm wash, 30 degrees is fine. i don’t use detergent for my lot and they smell fine afterwards. its really only for peoples benefit anyway pet allergy
just change the hammocks regularly to stop the ammonia from them affecting his chest.

a course of antibiotics will help. our vet prescribes baytril, but if you ask on the rat health section, or even just search it on the website listed below, there is a combination of drugs that can help. definately take him to the vets. also i found bisolvin powder (again from the vet, alongside baytril) helps to release any mucus build up, you don’t need much, its mainly used in farm animals pet allergy

until you get to the vet i recommend placing some olbas oil, on a tissue near the cage. i do think for my rats, and it helps a lot. if you feel brave and the rat is really tame, you can place a bowl of hot (not boiling) water near the cage with some olbas oil in, make sure he cant reach it! this should help steam him. or you could run a bath and the steam from the how water will help him (don’t put him in it, just sit with him in the bathroom)

but definitely olbas oil, left outside the cage, it will help him and wont harm his friends pet allergy

How long would it take for an allergic reaction to antibiotics to show up?

My 8 yr old son was diagnosed with strep throat 9 days ago and has been taking amoxicillin ever since. This morning he woke up with a rash on his face and neck. He doesn’t have a fever or any other symptoms and he says the rash doesn’t itch. Could it be an allergic reaction or would that have itself before now if he were allergic?

Medication allergies can crop up at any time during or after the course of medication. However, since he has strep, I would guess it is more a strep-related rash than an allergic reaction to medication, especially if he has taken amoxicillin before without a problem. Always advisable to contact the doctor and inform this of them.
